Do We Need To Worry About December 21, 2012?

This post is about the panic about the 21st of December this month. I don't think we need to panic. I already posted about this, but it did not get a lot of readers, so here we go again. I will also add new information.

There are a lot of things online about the Mayan Calendar ending on December 21 of 2012. Some people have drawn the conclusion from this that it means the Mayans were predicting the end of the world on that date.

Experts who have studied the Mayans and their calendar system say that their long calendar that covers thousands of years, and ends on the 21st, is meant to be a cyclical calendar. When you get to the end of that Mayan calendar, you go back to the beginning and start over.

One of the experts I checked into was a Mayan descendant who said his knowledge was handed down from his ancestors.

His knowledge includes the Mayan long count calendar that ends on the 21st. He said, in a video of a talk he gave in California, that calendar was meant to repeat when you get to the end of it. He also said that information about December 21st of 2012 is, a special date, nevertheless.

He said not only do the planets of our solar system align on the 21st, but the earth will also align with the center of our galaxy. He said the alignment with the center of the galaxy is very important to us, not because of bad things that are inevitable, but because of changes that can go either way.

He said that during the exact middle of the alignment of the earth with the center of our galaxy, the thinking of humans here will be affected. The effect on us will cause a change in our minds.

During a brief window that he mentioned as about half an hour, we will have vastly increased creativity and mental capacity. He said that what goes through our minds during that brief time period could have a good effect on the rest of our lives if we make sure we can retain it.

This Mayan descendant suggested that we should keep paper and pens handy so we can take notes on what goes through our minds during this window of alignment of the earth with the center of the galaxy. He said it will change our lives if we save and use the information about what our minds are doing at this special time of powerful, creative and inspired thinking.

I am not certain that the man who claims to be a Mayan descendant is correct, but it probably won't hurt anything to have paper and pen handy at the right time on the 21st of this month. That will be on Friday, three days before Christmas.

The most harmful thing likely to come to one who writes feverishly during the alignment of the earth with the center of the galaxy is feeling silly if nothing happens. I think it is worth that risk for the possible benefits if something wonderful happens.

I am limbering up my writing hand and keeping lots of paper and a pen handy. Maybe it would be worthwhile for you to do the same. It can't hurt much, and it might help a lot. The best way to find out is to try it.

December 21, 2012 What Is It About?

What is all of this excitement about December 21 of this year, 2012?

Part of it is because of the Mayan Calendar. It ends on December 21, this year. Since the Mayan Calendar puts our own modern calendar in the shade in many ways, people who noticed that it ends this year took that as scary.

The general idea goes something like, "If they could make such accurate calendars that included predicting things like planetary alignments and solar eclipses from thousands of years ago, what do they know that made them end the calendar now"?

I was reassured when I learned that the Mayan calendar was a perpetual calendar. You get to the end of it and then you start again at the beginning of it. They observed and predicted cycles, including the one where their calendar ends in a few days. It is just another cycle, and we don't need to get that excited about it.

That doesn't mean that nothing will happen. Even when you know what a cycle is, it can predict things that will cause changes. The seasons of our year are a cycle that repeats, but even when we know that it will repeat it has things we need to pay attention to. The same is true for the Mayan Calendar cycle that ends in a few days.

The Mayan Calendar tells us that we get a rare planetary alignment on December 21 of this year. That does not mean the end of the world, but it is worth paying attention to.

Every planet has a gravitational effect on other things around it including other planets. It can make a difference when you stack up all those gravitational pulls in the same direction.

The moon is small. It is also far away compared to distances on Earth. As small and distant as the moon is, it exerts enough gravitational pull to cause tides in the ocean.

Saturn and Jupiter are much more massive than the moon and they will be lined up with all the other planets at once.

The people who have studied the Mayan Calendar say that not only will our solar system line up, but so will the core of our galaxy. Some of the people with a spiritual bent who talk about this alignment with the core of our galaxy, say that this will  also affect us.

This post is about as long as my normal post length now. I need to post, so I will publish this as it is for now. I may add more tonight.

Free Entry To Contest For Homesteaders

This contest is free, but you have to meet certain conditions to enter it:
"Participants must be legal residents of the United States (excluding Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, New York, Rhode Island and Puerto Rico, where the Promotion is void), and at least 18 years of age or older by February 20. 2012. Also, participants must have the following facilities in order to be eligible:
1. A minimum of two (2) acres of fenced land
2. Access to a weather shelter
3. Access to a water source
Employees, officers, and directors (including immediate family members and members of the same household) of Ogden Publications, Inc., their affiliated companies, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, members of theAmerican Highland Cattle Association, and any other entities and consultants directly associated with this Sweepstakes (collectively, “Released Parties”), are also not eligible to participate. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Void where prohibited. "

The grand prize winner gets over $11,000. worth of prizes that would make most homesteaders drool.
The biggie among these is a highland cattle heifer.

I am busy eating my heart out because I am not eligible in several ways, not least of which is living in Alaska. Sigh. I guess they don't want to ship a nice cow up here. Spoil sports! We do have ferries.

You only get one entry before this coming December 17.

I met some Highland cattle in Scotland and thought they were very cute. I did not know how tough they are supposed to be. Some online sources say that they handle cold weather very well. They are supposed to be extra healthy, calve well without assistance and are not picky eaters. All of this seemed to make them possible good choices for Alaska.

The worst downside to them is probably not their fault. That would be grizzly bears. I somehow think a Highland cattle heifer could become a health food snack for a grizzly bear. I would not like that.

If you see homesteading as a preparedness solution, or you just like homesteading, you should take a look at the link to the contest. If you don't feel like typing it into your browser, you can just go to the Mother Earth site. I expect it will be easy to spot there.

Sifting Predictions For Next December's CataclysmicDisaster

I am a female prepper. I believe that we are to be differentiated from survivalists because we are more focused on our survival itself than on making it into a competitive activity. I had already been working on disaster preparedness before I found out what the excitement was about for 2012.

Youtube is the first place I discovered predictions about the disasters expected next December 21 of 2011. A lot of impressive types agree about it. The Mayan and Egyptian calendars are in agreement within about a year. A year sounds like a lot to us, but these folks made these predictions thousands of years ago. On the time scale of thousands of years, one year is pretty close, especially when you consider they were not using the same year lengths.

The majority of people who expect the world to end next December think it will come in the form of a polar shift. A polar shift is a sudden rearrangement of the tectonic plates that we humans live on. The continents shift in movements big enough and fast enough to cause massive earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions.

I do not think the world will end next December, but I do think it could be a rough year to live through. I am not ready for such a big disaster as is expected, but I can handle smaller ones ok. I am making an effort to be prepared for next year's disaster the best I am able to do. I figure it is better to be ready and not have the disaster and not have it happen than the reverse.

I have given several people a quick tour of youtube videos on the subject of next year's cataclysmic disaaster. They were all pretty upset by what they saw, but all thanked me for it and said they would rather know than not. It occurred to me that more people might also appreciate it, so this blog post is going to do the same for my gentle readers.

This one explains what a polar shift is and that scientists have found they have happened before

This one is maps of what will be under water after 2012

There are lots more of these and whole sites with nothing but this stuff. It is enough to scare stuff right out of you. I do not think you should let it make you panic. I am going to do more posts about suggestions on what to do if you think this might or will happen.
