Disaster Risk Reduction You Can Do For Your Health

Lack of medical care is a major problem after just about any disaster. Lots of people get hurt during or after a disaster and medical care people get overwhelmed with too many patients. It is really bad to have an ordinary illness during a disaster, because you might die from it before you can get near a doctor.

Because of the problem of getting medical  care during and after a disaster, staying as healthy as possible is disaster risk reduction. This is something that you have a lot of control over.

Most people in developed nations are fat. We eat too much rich food and don't exercise enough. We have a lot of preventable illnesses like heart attacks because our cholesterol is too high. These kinds of things kill or permanently disable a lot of us.

If you are interested in disaster preparedness, staying as healthy as you can manage, has to be part of your preparedness.

If you know that you have health risks that you can reduce, you can also reduce your risk for dying from a disaster.

If you weigh too much, start doing things that will help you to get your weight down. It does not have to be done all at once. Small changes can add up to weight loss. One less pat of butter or one less spoon of sugar a day will eventually add up to a pound of weight loss. Less butter or sugar making more fat on you will give you a chance to have more money for preparedness as well.

I did a lot of early posts on this blog about weight loss or even not gaining weight during the holidays. I wrote them before the holidays, but most of it applies for any time of year. If you need to lose weight, please do disaster risk reduction. You can use my blog posts about weight control to get you started. There are lots of links to good sites on the internet to help you find out how much you need to lose and then lose it.

There are a lot of bad things in the world that we can not do anything about. We can often do things to stay healthy. This is a disaster risk reduction that you can do.

Different Types Of Frames For Backpacks, Soft, Internal, and External Frames

I just bought some bug out bags or go bags for a relative. My relative was overwhelmed with buying one. If all else fails with unprepared relatives, you can always help them prepare.

Picking out equipment made me more aware that my blog readers may share some of the same problems with my relative. I hate leaving people unprepared if I can post on it to help, so here goes.

First, I am assuming that you want a backpack for your bug out bag or go bag. There are three main types of backpacks. There are the frameless. Those are the ones you see most often in the department stores. They are soft all over and their rigidity depends on what they have in them.

There are two kinds of backpacks with frames. One of these is the internal frame backpack and the other is the external or rigid frame backpack.

Some of the internal frame backpacks have hard frames and some have softer frames that will form to your body or load.

External frame backpacks mostly have a lightweight metal frame, usually aluminum. The cloth part of the backpack is attached to the metal frame. There are various types of suspension systems to prevent the metal frame from touching your body.

If the metal frame touched your body with a heavy load in it and you walked a long way, you could end up with an injury. I prefer the suspension system that includes a sturdy belt in the waist area that places a lot of the weight of the backpack on the hips of the person carrying it.

It is best to have a fastening at the waist that is quick and easy to open. I don't want to spend time here going into the specific reasons for this, but it is best for your safety. Parachute buckles are good for this purpose.

It is common for exterior frame backpacks to include another strap across the chest area. I am sorry if it is not already clear to you that the waist strap and the chest strap are meant to go in front of the backpack wearer, between the shoulder straps.

There should be plenty of padding for the waist strap and hips if these areas bear much weight. This is even more so for the shoulder straps. The padding on the shoulder straps is very important.

The chest strap is not usually padded. It functions more to keep the shoulder straps from slipping out of place, than in a weight-bearing capacity.

Some backpacks are also padded where they touch your back. This applies more to frameless backpacks. Some internal frame backpacks are also padded in these areas. I have seen a few rigid frames with padding like this as well.

Rigid frame backpacks often have a system of canvas and lacings to suspend the metal frame and prevent it from touching the person carrying it. These vary a great deal in complexity and effectiveness. I almost bought one that probably required a PHd to adjust it. I can't help but feel that it is a good idea to understand how the thing works before you leave the store.

Knowledgeable and considerate store owners selling backpacks often have sandbags or other weights that you can place in one of their backpacks to try them out with a load in them. If they don't have this, I think it is a good idea to bring your own. You can walk around in the store to test it.

Make sure the backpack is comfortable and balanced for you. Make sure that you are stable when you walk with it fully loaded. Some types of backpacks work better with a certain type of physique and not another. You can only tell this by testing it.

You need to check for rubbing that might cause sores and whether you can adjust to prevent this. One thing that I watch for is the set of the shoulder straps. I am smaller than average and have narrower shoulders too. This means many backpacks have straps that will continually slide off my shoulders. This will be exhausting on a long walk.

Pay careful attention to how the various backpacks interact with your particular body type. It is helpful to have an experienced backpacker help you choose and fit your backpack. Ultimately, you are the only one who can say which backpack is most comfortable and works best for you.

An Easy Way To Have More Energy

I am going to tell you a way to have more energy to get things done. You certainly can't be prepared unless you have enough energy to work on it.

This is a simple alternative health method of getting toxins out of your body that are sapping your energy and vitality. It is very simple. It is so simple that it is hard to understand how it could work. This is one of those things that you just have to go ahead and try it for yourself to know what it does.

It is called "oil pulling". I ran across it in my searches through alternative healing methods that will prevent one from having illness during an emergency and when there is not emergency as well.

I tried this method and it is very effective for me. The same is true for others I know who have tried it.

All you need to do it is some kind of vegetable oil. It does not seem to change the effectiveness no matter what kind of oil you use. I use canola oil because that is what I have handy. It was recommended that one use a mild tasting oil to do this. Canola is one of those. Someone I know uses coconut oil because it tastes pleasant. I tried olive oil and did not like it.

You need a teaspoon to a tablespoon of the oil in a spoon. You put it in your mouth and swish it around. It needs to go between and around all of your teeth and gums. It also needs to go under your tongue.

You swish the oil for 15 to 20 minutes. After the time is up you spit out the oil. I use a piece of toilet paper to spit the oil into.

The oil is death on plumbing, so you need to put it in your garbage or trash. I have not tried it yet, but expect it will burn well if  you have a fireplace.

Be very careful not to swallow any of the oil. It is very toxic and can make your stomach very upset or give you diarrhea if you swallow any of the oil. I speak of this through experience. I got a phone call in the middle of my oil pulling a couple of times and was startled into swallowing it. Really don't do it.

Swallowing the oil was the hard way to learn it, but the oil pulling draws toxins out of your body and into the oil.

I have found the oil pulling works better if you do it first thing in the morning before you even drink water. You can get an idea of how much toxic material is being pulled out of your body by the consistency of the oil as you swish it.

If the oil thickens, it has more toxins in it. If it is thinned by your saliva, it has less toxins. After you do oil pulling for a while you will start to recognize how it is working.

I feel a considerable boost in energy when I do my oil pulling consistently. I notice a nasty drop in energy when I miss it. This makes me pretty faithful in doing it. I like to do it twice a day. The best times for me are first thing in the morning and before dinner in the evening. Sometimes I do it three times a day.

If, like me, you are having a battle with gum disease, the oil pulling will be especially helpful. My gums were noticeably pinker after I did oil pulling the first time. I was immediately sold on it after that.

Later I noticed that it helps with problems that don't appear to have any reason why oil pulling might work on them. If you google oil pulling you can see amazing testimonies of people who have had wonderful results from it.

The best way to find out about it is to try it for yourself, regardless of the high praise for it from others. There is no good reason I can think of not to do it. It does not cost much. It does not take a lot of time or effort. It does not hurt. The results can be very big in proportion to the investment in it. You have a chance to feel better and have more energy for 15 to 20 minutes that you can use to do something else at the same time.

Alice's Restaurant Lyrics

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_7C0QGkiVo

Alice's Restaurant
By Arlo Guthrie ©1966,1967 (Renewed) by Appleseed Music Inc. All Rights Reserved.

This song is called Alice's Restaurant, and it's about Alice, and the
restaurant, but Alice's Restaurant is not the name of the restaurant,
that's just the name of the song, and that's why I called the song Alice's
Restaurant.

You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant
You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant
Walk right in it's around the back
Just a half a mile from the railroad track
You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant

Now it all started two Thanksgivings ago, was on - two years ago on
Thanksgiving, when my friend and I went up to visit Alice at the
restaurant, but Alice doesn't live in the restaurant, she lives in the
church nearby the restaurant, in the bell-tower, with her husband Ray and
Fasha the dog. And livin' in the bell tower like that, they got a lot of
room downstairs where the pews used to be in. Havin' all that room,
seein' as how they took out all the pews, they decided that they didn't
have to take out their garbage for a long time.

We got up there, we found all the garbage in there, and we decided it'd be
a friendly gesture for us to take the garbage down to the city dump. So
we took the half a ton of garbage, put it in the back of a red VW
microbus, took shovels and rakes and implements of destruction and headed
on toward the city dump.

Well we got there and there was a big sign and a chain across across the
dump saying, "Closed on Thanksgiving." And we had never heard of a dump
closed on Thanksgiving before, and with tears in our eyes we drove off
into the sunset looking for another place to put the garbage.

We didn't find one. Until we came to a side road, and off the side of the
side road there was another fifteen foot cliff and at the bottom of the
cliff there was another pile of garbage. And we decided that one big pile
is better than two little piles, and rather than bring that one up we
decided to throw our's down.

That's what we did, and drove back to the church, had a thanksgiving
dinner that couldn't be beat, went to sleep and didn't get up until the
next morning, when we got a phone call from officer Obie. He said, "Kid,
we found your name on an envelope at the bottom of a half a ton of
garbage, and just wanted to know if you had any information about it." And
I said, "Yes, sir, Officer Obie, I cannot tell a lie, I put that envelope
under that garbage."

After speaking to Obie for about fourty-five minutes on the telephone we
finally arrived at the truth of the matter and said that we had to go down
and pick up the garbage, and also had to go down and speak to him at the
police officer's station. So we got in the red VW microbus with the
shovels and rakes and implements of destruction and headed on toward the
police officer's station.

Now friends, there was only one or two things that Obie coulda done at
the police station, and the first was he could have given us a medal for
being so brave and honest on the telephone, which wasn't very likely, and
we didn't expect it, and the other thing was he could have bawled us out
and told us never to be see driving garbage around the vicinity again,
which is what we expected, but when we got to the police officer's station
there was a third possibility that we hadn't even counted upon, and we was
both immediately arrested. Handcuffed. And I said "Obie, I don't think I
can pick up the garbage with these handcuffs on." He said, "Shut up, kid.
Get in the back of the patrol car."

And that's what we did, sat in the back of the patrol car and drove to the
quote Scene of the Crime unquote. I want tell you about the town of
Stockbridge, Massachusets, where this happened here, they got three stop
signs, two police officers, and one police car, but when we got to the
Scene of the Crime there was five police officers and three police cars,
being the biggest crime of the last fifty years, and everybody wanted to
get in the newspaper story about it. And they was using up all kinds of
cop equipment that they had hanging around the police officer's station.
They was taking plaster tire tracks, foot prints, dog smelling prints, and
they took twenty seven eight-by-ten colour glossy photographs with circles
and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each
one was to be used as evidence against us. Took pictures of the approach,
the getaway, the northwest corner the southwest corner and that's not to
mention the aerial photography.

After the ordeal, we went back to the jail. Obie said he was going to put
us in the cell. Said, "Kid, I'm going to put you in the cell, I want your
wallet and your belt." And I said, "Obie, I can understand you wanting my
wallet so I don't have any money to spend in the cell, but what do you
want my belt for?" And he said, "Kid, we don't want any hangings." I
said, "Obie, did you think I was going to hang myself for littering?"
Obie said he was making sure, and friends Obie was, cause he took out the
toilet seat so I couldn't hit myself over the head and drown, and he took
out the toilet paper so I couldn't bend the bars roll out the - roll the
toilet paper out the window, slide down the roll and have an escape. Obie
was making sure, and it was about four or five hours later that Alice
(remember Alice? It's a song about Alice), Alice came by and with a few
nasty words to Obie on the side, bailed us out of jail, and we went back
to the church, had a another thanksgiving dinner that couldn't be beat,
and didn't get up until the next morning, when we all had to go to court.

We walked in, sat down, Obie came in with the twenty seven eight-by-ten
colour glossy pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back
of each one, sat down. Man came in said, "All rise." We all stood up,
and Obie stood up with the twenty seven eight-by-ten colour glossy
pictures, and the judge walked in sat down with a seeing eye dog, and he
sat down, we sat down. Obie looked at the seeing eye dog, and then at the
twenty seven eight-by-ten colour glossy pictures with circles and arrows
and a paragraph on the back of each one, and looked at the seeing eye dog.
And then at twenty seven eight-by-ten colour glossy pictures with circles
and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one and began to cry,
'cause Obie came to the realization that it was a typical case of American
blind justice, and there wasn't nothing he could do about it, and the
judge wasn't going to look at the twenty seven eight-by-ten colour glossy
pictures with the circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each
one explaining what each one was to be used as evidence against us. And
we was fined $50 and had to pick up the garbage in the snow, but thats not
what I came to tell you about.

Came to talk about the draft.

They got a building down New York City, it's called Whitehall Street,
where you walk in, you get injected, inspected, detected, infected,
neglected and selected. I went down to get my physical examination one
day, and I walked in, I sat down, got good and drunk the night before, so
I looked and felt my best when I went in that morning. `Cause I wanted to
look like the all-American kid from New York City, man I wanted, I wanted
to feel like the all-, I wanted to be the all American kid from New York,
and I walked in, sat down, I was hung down, brung down, hung up, and all
kinds o' mean nasty ugly things. And I waked in and sat down and they gave
me a piece of paper, said, "Kid, see the phsychiatrist, room 604."

And I went up there, I said, "Shrink, I want to kill. I mean, I wanna, I
wanna kill. Kill. I wanna, I wanna see, I wanna see blood and gore and
guts and veins in my teeth. Eat dead burnt bodies. I mean kill, Kill,
KILL, KILL." And I started jumpin up and down yelling, "KILL, KILL," and
he started jumpin up and down with me and we was both jumping up and down
yelling, "KILL, KILL." And the sargent came over, pinned a medal on me,
sent me down the hall, said, "You're our boy."

Didn't feel too good about it.

Proceeded on down the hall gettin more injections, inspections,
detections, neglections and all kinds of stuff that they was doin' to me
at the thing there, and I was there for two hours, three hours, four
hours, I was there for a long time going through all kinds of mean nasty
ugly things and I was just having a tough time there, and they was
inspecting, injecting every single part of me, and they was leaving no
part untouched. Proceeded through, and when I finally came to the see the
last man, I walked in, walked in sat down after a whole big thing there,
and I walked up and said, "What do you want?" He said, "Kid, we only got
one question. Have you ever been arrested?"

And I proceeded to tell him the story of the Alice's Restaurant Massacre,
with full orchestration and five part harmony and stuff like that and all
the phenome... - and he stopped me right there and said, "Kid, did you ever
go to court?"

And I proceeded to tell him the story of the twenty seven eight-by-ten
colour glossy pictures with the circles and arrows and the paragraph on
the back of each one, and he stopped me right there and said, "Kid, I want
you to go and sit down on that bench that says Group W .... NOW kid!!"

And I, I walked over to the, to the bench there, and there is, Group W's
where they put you if you may not be moral enough to join the army after
committing your special crime, and there was all kinds of mean nasty ugly
looking people on the bench there. Mother rapers. Father stabbers. Father
rapers! Father rapers sitting right there on the bench next to me! And
they was mean and nasty and ugly and horrible crime-type guys sitting on the
bench next to me. And the meanest, ugliest, nastiest one, the meanest
father raper of them all, was coming over to me and he was mean 'n' ugly
'n' nasty 'n' horrible and all kind of things and he sat down next to me
and said, "Kid, whad'ya get?" I said, "I didn't get nothing, I had to pay
$50 and pick up the garbage." He said, "What were you arrested for, kid?"
And I said, "Littering." And they all moved away from me on the bench
there, and the hairy eyeball and all kinds of mean nasty things, till I
said, "And creating a nuisance." And they all came back, shook my hand,
and we had a great time on the bench, talkin about crime, mother stabbing,
father raping, all kinds of groovy things that we was talking about on the
bench. And everything was fine, we was smoking cigarettes and all kinds of
things, until the Sargeant came over, had some paper in his hand, held it
up and said.

"Kids, this-piece-of-paper's-got-47-words-37-sentences-58-words-we-wanna-
know-details-of-the-crime-time-of-the-crime-and-any-other-kind-of-thing-
you-gotta-say-pertaining-to-and-about-the-crime-I-want-to-know-arresting-
officer's-name-and-any-other-kind-of-thing-you-gotta-say", and talked for
forty-five minutes and nobody understood a word that he said, but we had
fun filling out the forms and playing with the pencils on the bench there,
and I filled out the massacre with the four part harmony, and wrote it
down there, just like it was, and everything was fine and I put down the
pencil, and I turned over the piece of paper, and there, there on the
other side, in the middle of the other side, away from everything else on
the other side, in parentheses, capital letters, quotated, read the
following words:

("KID, HAVE YOU REHABILITATED YOURSELF?")

I went over to the sargent, said, "Sargeant, you got a lot a damn gall to
ask me if I've rehabilitated myself, I mean, I mean, I mean that just, I'm
sittin' here on the bench, I mean I'm sittin here on the Group W bench
'cause you want to know if I'm moral enough join the army, burn women,
kids, houses and villages after bein' a litterbug." He looked at me and
said, "Kid, we don't like your kind, and we're gonna send you fingerprints
off to Washington."

And friends, somewhere in Washington enshrined in some little folder, is a
study in black and white of my fingerprints. And the only reason I'm
singing you this song now is cause you may know somebody in a similar
situation, or you may be in a similar situation, and if your in a
situation like that there's only one thing you can do and that's walk into
the shrink wherever you are ,just walk in say "Shrink, You can get
anything you want, at Alice's restaurant.". And walk out. You know, if
one person, just one person does it they may think he's really sick and
they won't take him. And if two people, two people do it, in harmony,
they may think they're both faggots and they won't take either of them.
And three people do it, three, can you imagine, three people walking in
singin a bar of Alice's Restaurant and walking out. They may think it's an
organization. And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day,I said
fifty people a day walking in singin a bar of Alice's Restaurant and
walking out. And friends they may thinks it's a movement.

And that's what it is , the Alice's Restaurant Anti-Massacre Movement, and
all you got to do to join is sing it the next time it come's around on the
guitar.

With feeling. So we'll wait for it to come around on the guitar, here and
sing it when it does. Here it comes.

You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant
You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant
Walk right in it's around the back
Just a half a mile from the railroad track
You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant

That was horrible. If you want to end war and stuff you got to sing loud.
I've been singing this song now for twenty five minutes. I could sing it
for another twenty five minutes. I'm not proud... or tired.

So we'll wait till it comes around again, and this time with four part
harmony and feeling.

We're just waitin' for it to come around is what we're doing.

All right now.

You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant
Excepting Alice
You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant
Walk right in it's around the back
Just a half a mile from the railroad track
You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant

Da da da da da da da dum

Our Disappearing Chances To Get Rid Of Bad Leaders

Some Native Americans told me a story that made a big impression on me. The story was about a tribal chief who got too egotistical and bossy. He forgot that he was a servant of the people. He even seemed to start thinking that the people were his servants.

He ordered everyone around and was generally mean and disagreeable. The rest of the tribe were all getting pretty tired of it. They began grumbling a lot, giving him dirty looks, and whispering and becoming quiet when he came near them.

One morning the chief woke up and noticed it was very quiet. Too quiet. He went outside. There was nobody there. The entire tribe had left in the night and he was alone.

That story reminded me of the poster they used to have around a while back. The poster said, "What if they had a war and nobody came?"

Our leaders can not lead without our cooperation, at least not yet. They are working on changing that.

Our world is not doing too well now. Neither is the human race. I still run across egg-crate-cushioned people who do not know this, but I don't believe too many people like that are left. I think most people know that we have a problem with how things are going for both the world and those in it, including humans.

If we want a chance to decide what will happen to us and to the rest of the world, we don't have long to act on it. I am going to post things that tell about how our chance to decide for ourselves is disappearing.

This is about Benetton company implanting microchips into their clothing which will keep track of where they are even after customers take them home and wear them.

http://www.abrieflookattomorrow.com/newslinks/index.php?showtopic=279&st=0

The following quote is about possible consequences of people being tracked by chips carried on them or implanted. I think that is an optimistic idea of what would happen.

"Still, implanting RFID chips could vastly increase the potential for police surveillance of ordinary citizens. Conceivably, every wall socket could become an RFID reader that feeds into a government database.

Critics contend that if tagging gets out of control, the day will eventually come when the cops will be able to trace junk thrown in a public trash can back to the person who tossed it. [Google Alice's Restaurant lyrics.]
"Do you want the people in power to have that much power?" Albrecht asked rhetorically. "The infrastructure obstacle has been overcome. It is called electricity and the Internet." end"

Perfect people are rare. If we have chips implanted with computers keeping track of where we are every second we are open to blackmail. That includes our government people and our judges and police. That means someone else can tell them what to do. The same could happen to you.

Even worse than that, is that an Al Qaida lieutenant was remotely tracked by his cell phone. A drone was sent to the cell phone and blew him up. This could happen to anyone.

Unmanned, or computer controlled drones, in other words, have been deployed for some time now. The USA has recently decided to add nuclear power to these unmanned drones so that they can stay up longer without more fuel.

This means that someone could decide they object to something you are doing and push a button to blow you up.

Between the Patriot Act signed by President Bush, and the National Defense Authorization Act signed by President Obama, we are much closer to this happening. Those acts allow us to be detained indefinitely without a warrant, or have military force used against us. That would include exploding drones.

In case you are very flexible about bending over and putting your head in dark places, here is a quote by the ACLU:

"On December 31, 2011, President Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), codifying indefinite military detention without charge or trial into law for the first time in American history. The NDAA’s dangerous detention provisions would authorize the president — and all future presidents — to order the military to pick up and indefinitely imprison people captured anywhere in the world, far from any battlefield. "
http://www.aclu.org/blog/tag/NDAA

For those who consider the ACLU to be a left-wing radical organization, here is a quote from "Forbes",
"We’re talking about the stripping away of our most basic freedoms. We’re talking about a potential state that can call me a terrorist for writing this blog post and then lock me up and throw away the key."

http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2011/12/05/the-national-defense-authorization-act-is-the-greatest-threat-to-civil-liberties-americans-face/

My apologies for such a long post. I am not really finished, however. Feel free to stop here if it bothers you, since this is already more than twice as long as my usual posts.

Here is an easy to understand analysis of the language in the NDAA:
http://www.naturalnews.com/034538_NDAA_American_citizens_indefinite_detainment.html

Here is a quote from that article:

"As everyone who studies history well knows, the Patriot Act already establishes an "existing authority" that anyone suspected of being involved in terrorist-related activities can be arrested and detained without trial. If you don't believe me, just Google it yourself. This is not a debated issue; it's widely recognized.

Furthermore, President Obama already insists that he has the authority to kill American citizens merely by decree! As Reuters reported on October 5, 2011, a "secret panel" of government officials (who report to the President) can decide to place an American citizen on a "kill list" and then murder that person, without trial, without due process, and without even being arrested. (http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/10/05/us-cia-killlist-idUSTRE7947...)

As you can see, the end of the part of the article I quoted has other articles quoted in it. You can follow up on those if you like.

There is a lot more that I am not including here. Some examples are articles that I read in the newspapers during President Bush's tenure. They mentioned that retarded adults and seniors with Alzheimers had been GPS microchipped, "for their own protection".

There were also articles about a controversy over Prince Charles wanting to microchip his sons "for their own protection", in case they were kidnapped. It was decided not to do this because royal families have historically murdered each other over succession to the throne. Mentions were made that Prince Charles will never succeed to the throne because he has offended Queen Elizabeth with Camilla scandals. It was also mentioned that the men in his family do not have long lifespans, unlike the females. This was considered relevant to the situation because the Queen could easily outlast Prince Charles and then retire to allow her grandsons to succeed her.

I do not know whether all of the above was true and am too tired to check it all, and too poor to spend a lot of money on archived news. The relative lifespans of the men versus the women among the UK royals is easy to see. The history of Borgia-style behavior among royals is pretty well known. I have no personal knowledge of how murderous or not the current crop of royals are. I think I would especially object to a GPS implant if I were a royal, however.

I am developing an aversion to carrying a cell phone even as a private citizen. I am afraid this blog post will get me blown up any time. Now who do I really dislike? Maybe I could offer them a nice used cell phone....

How To Find Ways To Solve Your Problems

If you are capable of reading this blog post and thinking about it, you have some abilities that can help you a lot. Most likely you are not using them or do not even realize they exist.

There is an easy way to get started using your special abilities. I am going to share a way to use your subconscious mind to solve problems. It is so easy that you may be tempted to not take it seriously. This would be a very wasteful mistake. You should give it a good try to see what happens. Practice makes you better at it, so keep working at it.

Pick a time to start this when you have some problem that you are trying to work out, or something is bothering you.

You need paper and something to write with. I suggest a pencil or something that does not require you to sit up. You might also like a clipboard or book to put behind the paper and give you a firm writing surface, and a light. You will also need a little determination to do what it takes to achieve this and some patience.

Put your paper and writing implement where you can easily reach them by your bed. I have written in the dark, but it is much harder to read later if you can't see. A light helps. A flashlight under the blankets might be good to avoid disturbing a mate or roommate.

Before you go to sleep, you need to tell yourself to wake up and write it down, when something comes to you about your problem.

You may get something in your mind before you are even quite asleep. It may wake you up after you are asleep or in the middle of the night. When you feel something is there, get your paper and pencil or pen, etc. ready and write down what is in your mind as fast as you can. Do not edit or criticize yourself or your ideas, no matter what they are like, even if you think they are silly or make no sense. Your job now is simply to take dictation from your subconscious.

As soon as the problem-solving thoughts stop, lie down and go back to sleep. This process may wake you several times in one night. If so, do the same thing and write it down without editing each time.

I find it is best to do this at least three different nights. They do not have to be consecutive nights, but that often works the best.

At your earliest opportunity, write down anything else that you know about what you wrote at night. The next morning is preferable. This works best when you are relatively clear-headed. Eg. After you have your morning coffee or tea.

Once you are satisfied that you have enough, try reading it and rearrange it and think about it and see what it tells you. I have sometimes had to get a little esoteric to make sense of it.

I do that by looking for a recurrence of some unclear symbol at least three times. Your subconscious has to resort to visuals most of the time to get through to your conscious mind.

Don't be put off if the symbolism seems bizarre. Your conscious mind can be dense and may require something with strong emotional overtones to get through to it.

Other people who have tried this have been amazed at what happens. Problems that don't seem to have any solution can be solved by this process.

Everyday People's Nuclear Disaster Risk Reduction

According to many authorities that I have read during my research for posts for this blog, I have found a lot that say that say that nuclear war is survivable if you prepare for it.

I have also read a lot that makes me wonder whether I would want to survive a nuclear disaster. This, of course, also makes me wonder whether other people would feel the same way.

Since disaster risk reduction is a very good idea to avoid deaths and damage or  make them less, I think we need to do disaster risk reduction with nuclear war and with nuclear power use as well.

The simplest way to do this with nuclear war is not to have one. How we might achieve this goal is harder.

Russia and the USA have many more nuclear weapons than any other countries.

If we leave the decisions about these weapons to our politicians of these countries, we will end up nuking each other in the near future. I do not like this idea, nor do a lot of Americans. I believe the numbers of Americans who do not like this are the vast majority.

According to some statistics I have read, over half of Russians do not like this either.

I am not sure what is happening in Russia about this matter, but a lot of Americans are very discouraged about nuclear weapons to the point of being fatalistic about it. Many young Americans have a resigned attitude about it and think they will die before their time.

I think Americans and Russians as well as other nuclear weapons nations like China, France, the UK, India, Pakistan, Israel, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Turkey, and North Korea, should find a way to do disaster risk reduction with nuclear weapons.

I think I can help a little by giving people some information to use for thinking about nuclear disaster risk reduction. Not that many people read my blog now, but the number is going up fast. All I can do is try, so I will.

I do not think nuclear power is a great idea either, so I will provide information for those who agree on this or are willing to think about it.

Below I have included a map of nuclear power in countries of the world. It also includes countries that have nuclear power plants in the planning and building stages.

This is a file from the Wikimedia Commons.

The link below is a world map of uranium deposits.

I found it interesting that Canada has very large uranium deposits, yet does not  use any nuclear power. They have a great abundance of hydroelectric power, and a small population, so they do not have a need for nuclear power.

New Zealand got into financial difficulty  with paying for a nuclear power plant that did not do what they intended it to do. I heard a lot about that when I was there and think it deserves a post. The Kiwis handled the matter in a way that I found very impressive.
